American Doubles... the Trials... the Triumphs... the Domination-This Week In American Doubles-July 1st

THIS WEEK IN AMERICAN DOUBLES
July 1, 2008

American Doubles continues to make news at Wimbledon, where Bob and Mike Bryan are into the semifinals of the men's doubles. The Bryans are also still alive in the Mixed Doubles event (Bob with Samantha Stosur and Mike with Katarina Srebotnik). Liezl Huber, the No. 1 women's player in the world is also in the final rounds of the Mixed and Women's Doubles, where she's joined by fellow Americans Lisa Raymond and Serena & Venus Williams. The Bryans, the Williams and Liezl Huber have something else to celebrate as they have all been chosen to represent the U.S. on this year's Olympic team. Also on the team are James Blake, Sam Querrey and Lindsay Davenport.

There are some former top American teams who are also doing well in the Wimbledon legends event. In today's matches, it was Donald Johnson & Jared Palmer over Luke & Murphy Jensen, while Ken Flach & Robert Seguso defeated Aussies Peter Mcnamara & Paul Mcnamee.

Sixteen year olds Christina McHale & Sloane Stephens took home the doubles title at the Via Christi Pro Tennis Classic in Wichita, Kansas. Treat Huey paired with his former University of Virginia teammate Somdev Devvarman for the doubles win at the Buffalo Bills Futures. Recent college graduate (and NCAA doubles champion) Kaes Van't Hof teamed with Rylan Rizza to win the doubles event at the Futures in Shingle Springs, California. It was an all-American final over Brian & Dann Battistone, who (right) are featured in the "Sibling Advantage" section of American Doubles... the Trials... the Triumphs... the Domination.

And in college news, former Stanford doubles great KJ Hippensteel will serve as the new Volunteer Assistant Women's Coach at Duke University where Ramsey Smith was just promoted to head men's coach.
